As issues continue to develop and change at a quick rate with COVID-19, the Coronavirus, we at the Wisconsin Counties Association (WCA) are working alongside Governor Tony Evers, the Administration, the National Association of Counties (NACo) and our general counsel, Attolles Law, s.c., to provide the latest resources and updates to assist county officials during this unprecedented time.

COVID-19 DAILY HEALTH UPDATE(Information from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) current as of 1:00 p.m. Central, Friday, April 24, 2020)

  • Total people with negative results: 54,573 (+3,117)
  • Total people with positive results: 5,356 (+304)
  • Hospitalizations: 1,353 (+35) or 25%
  • Total deaths: 262 (+5)

NACO HUMAN SERVICES AND EDUCATION COMMITTEE MEMO ON CARES ACT
The National Association of Counties’ Human Services and Education Committee has released a memo on the CARES Act and other federal actions, especially for counties running federal human services programs.

GOVERNING ARTICLE: REOPENING THE ECONOMY UNDER COVID-19: STATES PLOT A WAY BACK
Governing is keeping a running tally of coronavirus news and impacts at the intersection of the health and economic crises in the states and localities. The publication is building a 50-state map to visualize the changes underway to declare states “Open for Business” even as the coronavirus remains at large across the country.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF COUNTY AND CITY HEALTH OFFICIALS LAUNCH CORONAVIRUS RESOURCE WEBSITE
Local health departments are playing a critical role in testing, tracing, and tracking the spread of COVID-19; providing up-to-date health information and education to communities; collaborating with mental and behavioral health organizations to reduce anxiety and promote well-being in these uncertain times; and offering resources to help battle stigma and discrimination. 
To support local health departments, NACCHO has set up a new web resource to quickly identify the local burden of COVID-19, relevant to health department jurisdictions. They also highlight a tool to understand the COVID-19 impact on communities. 

WCA COVID-19 LEGAL Q AND A REPOSITORY
In the midst of this pandemic, the Wisconsin Counties Association has been working alongside our general counsel von Briesen & Roper, s.c. to regularly issue legal updates and Q and A documents.
WCA has created a page within their COVID-19 website where all legal documents are housed.
